photo credit Pinterest In light of the birth month of the beloved daughter of Rasulullah saw, thought I would share what I’ve learned from a class on Sayyidatina Fatimah RA recently. Ok ladies especially, once you’ve learned more about her, you just can’t help but love her. She is one masyaAllah amazinggg woman/Muslimah ok! She RA is the epitome and the creme de la creme of goodness and faith. I believe we all need role models and she is one of mine and she most definitely deserves to be our lady role model, this leader of the women in Jannah. Yes, look no further than her, radiyAllahuanha. There is a lot to share about her but these are just some key points I’ve personally noted in no order of importance. One of her nicknames is Umm Abiha which means Mother of her Father We can see this through her care, concern, and attention to Rasulullah SAW, especially after the passing of Sayyidatina Khadijah RA, and it was so selfless and devout. Even when she no longer lived in the same home as her father, she would cook and she would not eat except that she sent some to her father SAW. She RA was totally a hands-on woman! Sayyidah Fatimah RA kneaded the dough till her hands bruised, carried water till her chest hurt, took care of her children, among many others. Basically, laziness doesn’t exist in her dictionary, she works. And works hard. “Where lies the rank of women these days who are often dominated by laziness and lots of sleep?” – as translated from Untaian Mutiara Tasbih Fatimiyyah A dhikr that was taught to Sayyidah Fatimah RA by Rasulullah SAW which consists of saying the TasbeehSubhanallah 33 times, the TahmidAlhamdulillah 33 times and the TakbirAllahuakbar 34 times after every prayer and before sleep. Rasulullah SAW taught her this when she requested for a servant to help her as she had become fatigued and exhausted with all the housework. “Even though Rasulullah SAW did not grant them physical help, he SAW taught them, and us, for that matter,that when whoever recites the Tasbih Fatimiyyah, Allah SWT Himself supplies him or her witha spiritual, inner assistance and grants him or her motivation and strengthens him or her with well-being. And that assistance from Allah SWT will be much better for him or her, than the presence of a servant who only offers material help, MashaAllah!” She RA is the one that most closely resembles the Prophet saw, in looks, character, manners. Aisha reported I have not seen anyone more closely resemble the disposition, mannerism, and characteristics of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, than his daughter Fatimah, may Allah honor her countenance. If she entered his home, the Prophet would stand for her, take her by the hand, kiss her, and seat her in his place. If the Prophet entered her home, she would stand for him, take him by the hand, kiss him, and seat him in her place. She RA would rush to please her father Rasulullah saw There was once when Rasulullah SAW visited Sayyidah Fatimah RA but he SAW wasn’t as cheerful upon seeing her because he SAW saw that she RA was wearing a silver necklace. He SAW then left without saying anything, but Sayyidah Fatimah RA is one who is raised in a clear and sensitive environment – her father, Rasulullah SAW, need not quarrel, or shout, or show that he’s upset. Because of her tarbiyyah, and how close she was with Rasulullah SAW and how she RA always just wants to seek Rasulullah SAW’s pleasure, she automatically and quickly went to the market place and sold the silver, and donated the money to charity. And what about us and our parents. She, like her father Rasulullah saw, lived very simple lives. They had little, yet they kept giving and never turned anyone who asks from them. Her non-attachment to the Dunya is truly admirable. They had little, yet they were so, so wealthy and generous in terms of their character, manners, knowledge, and worship. They’re THE minimalist role models, hands-down. Her house’s carpet was soft sand. Their pillow is made of leather stuffed with palm fiber. They bought two hand-mills and two water-skins the hand-mill was for grinding and the water-skin for drawing water. They built their wardrobe by inserting a wooden rod between one wall and another. This rod was used to hang their clothes, their waterskin, and other things. How she had a good upbringing and tarbiyyah The best in fact, from the blessed household of the Rasulullah SAW. In line with this Ustazah F once said that “When it comes to children, only when they’re placed in the path of Allah swt are they blessings. Things are not blessings by the virtue of them. Same goes with things like wealth. Allah swt says they are trials. Only upon what you place them upon is either a blessing or a curse. How are we raising our children? Nephews and nieces? Her modesty, in life and death Not only did she took great care of her chastity and modesty when she RA was alive, but even in death. She was worried that her burial shroud would reveal the shape of her body. Not only that, but she also asked to be buried at night so no one could see her in the darkness of the night. Her sense of self-worthiness It didn’t come from her looks, men’s approval, what people think of her. Her sense of self-worthiness was rooted in a strong foundation of love and faith. She, like us, are created out of love and mercy. Now, who’s telling you that you’re not worthy? You are created by Allah swt, the best of creators. And so you are worthy and perfect just as you are.
